What is Log On, Learn?

Modules within the programme will enable the student to share common IT skills, including the use of the internet for common tasks. The one-to-one aspect of training will enable the students to tailor the training to suit each older person's needs.

This eight-module programme will take the older person's initial skill level, learning pace, interests and hobbies into account and aims to build confidence and have fun surfing the net, booking holidays and organising their finances from the comfort of their own homes.

  • The initiative was launched nationally on 1st Oct 2008 by the then Minister for Older People, Maire Hoctor.
  • Through the active participation of schools in the community, young people can engage in a programme which can positively change older people's lives.
  • To date over 165 schools are participating in the programme nationwide.
  • The programme has won 2 awards:
  • ICT Ireland—ICT Excellence Award 2009 under the category of Corporate Social Responsibility, for the Log On, Learn program
  • Chambers Ireland—President’s Awards for CSR 2009, Good Neighbour section winner—for Log on, Learn
